Sarajevo
Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is believed to have originated in the middle of the 15th century, to have been founded by the Turkish governor Isa-beg Isaković, as the center of Ottoman rule in that part of Europe.
Sarajevo is a city with a very turbulent history. Destroyed in many wars, then rebuilt and each time beautified and expanded, today it is the cultural, economic and administrative capital of BiH. Known in its past for numerous important events, the biggest of which are the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand, which is considered the occasion for the beginning of the First World War, as well as the holding of the Winter Olympic Games in 1984.
The river Miljacka flows through the town, surrounded by 5 mountains. The most famous part of the city is Baščaršija, a preserved old trade part from the Ottoman period, in which there used to be more than 12,000 different shops and craft shops. It represents the historical and cultural center of the city, the monument is under state protection.
Numerous mosques, churches, cathedrals, bridges, monuments that testify to the very exciting history of this city, specific architecture, natural beauty that surrounds it, rich cultural and nightlife, gastronomic offer and hospitable Sarajevans are just some of the reasons to visit this unique city.
